Please read the following paragraphs!

     Check with us if you are interested in giving a retired dachshund a home.  We are reducing the size of our kennel and will have dogs available until we reach our desired number.  All are crate trained and will use a doggy door.  You will have to spend some time with them on housetraining since they are leaving their comfort zone and everything will be new and strange to them.   We will have them spayed or neutered before we release these dogs.  We like to keep them for at least 10 days after surgery just to make sure everything is ok,  so it is advisable to plan ahead a little if you want to adopt one.   All are affectionate and love to cuddle.  They respond well to positive training methods.  If you feel you are qualified, please contact us.

There are advantages to adopting an older dog.  You know how big he/she will be.  It is past the puppy chewing and rowdy age.  At least some training has all ready been done.  And they will learn faster.

      It does take an older dog at least a week to adjust sometimes two weeks and in rare cases a little longer, so be prepared to spend some time with him to re-enforce what the dog all ready knows.  He just needs to learn to apply this knowledge in his new surroundings and that is where you can help him by spending as much time as possible with him those first couple of weeks teaching him the new rules and helping him get acquainted with his new surroundings.  Be consistent and patient.  Use lots of praise with your new family member.  He needs to know he is doing what will please you and it will work much better than "heavy handed" methods.  When training any dog make sure all family members concerned with his care do everything the same.

  We have a 5 year old piebald male available as a pet.  Very friendly, leashed trained and crate trained.  Loves to cuddle.

We have a red brindle smooth female available.  Serious enquiries only.  Has had a litter of five, free whelped.  Can be dominant.
